Full body checkup in Lucknow: what should actually be in it
· 7 min read · Lucknow

Health packages are sold on the length of the list, which is exactly the wrong way to choose one. A package of sixty tests is not better than a package of twenty-five if the extra thirty-five were never going to change anything for someone your age.
What follows is a plain view of what tends to earn its place, and what tends to be padding — so you can read any centre's package list, ours included, and judge it.
The core that is worth it at almost any adult age
These are inexpensive, widely recommended, and each one can change what your doctor does next. If a package does not have these, the length of the rest of the list is irrelevant.
- CBC — anaemia, infection and platelet problems, all from one tube
- Fasting glucose and HbA1c — diabetes and pre-diabetes, which are common and often silent
- Lipid profile — cholesterol and triglycerides, for cardiovascular risk
- Liver function tests — fatty liver is very common and usually symptomless until late
- Kidney function — creatinine with eGFR, and urea
- TSH — thyroid disease is common, particularly in women
- Urine routine — a cheap test that picks up a surprising amount
- Blood pressure, height, weight and waist measurement, which cost nothing and predict more than most of the blood tests
What is worth adding, and when
Beyond the core, additions should track age, sex and personal risk rather than being bought by the dozen.
In the thirties and forties, vitamin D and B12 are reasonable given how common deficiency is in this population. From around forty, an ECG becomes sensible, and a 2D echo or TMT if there are symptoms, a family history, or risk factors your doctor is weighing.
For women, cervical screening and — from the age your doctor advises, usually around forty — mammography. For men, a PSA discussion from around fifty, which is genuinely a discussion rather than an automatic test, because it has real downsides as well as benefits. For anyone with diabetes, an annual eye check, urine albumin and foot examination matter more than another blood panel.
What is often padding
Long tumour-marker panels in people with no symptoms and no risk factors are the clearest example. Markers like CA-125 or CEA are useful for monitoring known disease; used as screening in a healthy person they produce far more false alarms than early cancers, and each false alarm costs a scan, a biopsy and a bad month.
Whole-body scans marketed as reassurance fall into the same category, and add radiation for it. Very broad allergy panels in someone with no allergy symptoms are another. None of this means those tests are bad — it means they are the wrong tool when there is no question to answer.
The honest test of any package: for each item, ask what you would do differently if it came back abnormal. If the answer is 'nothing', it is padding.
Practical points for booking in Lucknow
Most panels want a fasting sample, which in practice means an early morning appointment or a home collection before breakfast. Ten to twelve hours without food, water allowed, and take your regular medicines as advised by your doctor unless told otherwise.
Charak runs pathology, imaging and cardiac testing in one building at Chowk, which matters for a checkup more than for a single test — a package that needs blood, an ECG and an ultrasound is one visit rather than three. The laboratory is NABL-accredited against ISO 15189:2022, certificate MC-2491.
