A trained phlebotomist visits at a time you choose, draws the sample under the same hygiene standards as the centre, and delivers it to the laboratory — so a fasting blood test need not mean a trip out before breakfast, and an unwell or elderly patient need not travel at all.

At Charak, home collection is booked online or by phone and covers the great majority of pathology tests. The sample is handled and transported so that its quality is preserved, and the report reaches you online exactly as it would for a sample given at the centre.

How home collection works

You choose your tests and a convenient morning slot. A phlebotomist arrives with sealed, sterile equipment, confirms your details, and collects the sample — usually a simple blood draw, and urine or other samples where the test needs them.

The sample is labelled, sealed and transported to the laboratory under controlled conditions, then processed and reported exactly as an in-centre sample is. Nothing about the result is second-class because it was collected at home.

How to prepare

Preparation is the same as for the test itself — fasting tests still need fasting. When you book, we tell you exactly what your tests require, just as we would at the centre.

Common questions

Is a home-collected sample as reliable as one given at the centre?

Yes. The same trained staff, sealed sterile equipment and controlled transport are used, and the sample is processed identically in the same laboratory. The report is in no way second-class because it was collected at home.

Which tests can be done at home?

The great majority of pathology tests — blood and urine based — can be collected at home. Imaging such as X-ray, ultrasound and scans must be done at the centre because they need the equipment there.

Do I still need to fast for a home collection?

Yes, if your test requires it. Fasting depends on the test, not on where the sample is taken — a lipid profile still needs a 10–12 hour fast whether at home or at the centre.
